On October 30, 1955, NYC engineer Stanley Dickerson made his last run before retirement, ending a career that started in 1909. The photographer rode along in the cab of NYC's F-M C-Liner #4504 from Springfield to Cincinnati Union Terminal.

Unfortunately, not all of the locations in this series are identified in our archive. We also do not know the identity of the train. Much of the information accompanying the photos was obtained from local experts. Shadow patterns in the photo at Dayton Union Station appear to indicate that it was before mid-day. It is also noted that a few of the pictures were taken at the end of a run back to Springfield. Apparently the loco was turned in Cincinnati and sent back with another train.
