The First Four Years

To honor the 50th Anniversary of Division 3, which occurred on June 21, 2009, we are presenting the following article on the history of the Division which originally appeared in the Call Board
We would welcome other information on the history of Division 3 and model railroading in general in the Miami Valley. Contact anyone on the BOG if you would like to contribute articles, photos or other memorabilia.

"The First Four Years" by Lone Eagle Payne is an eloquent description of the earliest activities of the Division recorded by L. E. Payne, who, as MCR President at the time, presided over the first formal meeting of the Division on June 21, 1959.

A Blast from the Past!

Gene Smith from Smitty's Hobby Shop shared with Mark Stiver, Division Historian, a collection of photos of early members and activities of the Division and model railroading in the Dayton area. Click HERE to view the photos. They came with minimal descriptions and documentation. If you can identify additional people or places in these pictures, please contact the Webmaster through the website or see Norm or Mark at any Division meeting.

UPDATE! December 20. We have received updated information from Curt Marshall and Bob Fink on a few of these photos.

Remember Rails Alive '75?

In August of 1975, Division 3 hosted the NMRA National Convention under the banner "Rails Alive in '75". The convention was a huge success and set the standard for years to come. We have located copies of the original promotional flyer and the "Program and Timetable" which was distributed to the participants. Slideshows of these interesting documents are available here and a CD with scans of the originals is available in the Division Library.
